July Athlete of the Month: Gabe


1.What is your favorite movement? Squat Clean

2.Why did you start CrossFit? I was looking for a new challenge as well as a new way to stay fit. I remember watching the games for the first time and I was completely blown away at how fit these athletes are and the movements they were performing. I also enjoyed the camaraderie that these athletes share amongst each other. Initially I was taken aback and tentative about joining but I mustard up enough courage to walk through the door and here I am today.

3.What do you love most about CrossFit? The competitiveness and the camaraderie. It is rare to find someone you are competing against beat you and then proceeds to turn around to cheer you on till you finish. I also enjoy the fact that CrossFit honors our current and fallen soldiers that make sacrifices for us to be able to have the opportunities we have as Americans, something I think we all take for granted from time to time. To me it brings me back to reality to realize how fortunate I am. CrossFit feels like a gigantic family that shares a mutual respect for one another, which is truly unique and I am proud to be apart of.

4.What would you tell someone who is thinking about starting CrossFit? Do not be intimidated because everyone is pulling for each other. Don't be scared to fail because failing only fuels the drive to get better and compete harder.

5.When did you start CrossFit? I started a year and a half ago.

6.What are the biggest changes you've noticed in yourself since starting CrossFit? I like to think of myself as a hard working individual, however with CrossFit I feel myself pushing myself to limits I never thought I would try. This is why CrossFit is special to me because without the support system I have from my colleagues I don't think I would have ever tried some of the things I have done without them. It helps me to push as hard as I possibly can to get better. I have more energy and I like the fact that some movements I thought I could never do I have managed to accomplish.

7.What is your favorite cheat meal? As a native Texan I gotta roll with BBQ and beer! Peach Cobbler with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream on top for dessert!
